Art. 20 Emergency call service 67

1 The tele­phone ser­vice pro­viders must of­fer a ser­vice that en­ables users to con­tact the ap­pro­pri­ate emer­gency call centre in the event of danger to life and limb, health or prop­erty (emer­gency call ser­vice).

2 They must guar­an­tee rout­ing and loc­a­tion iden­ti­fic­a­tion for emer­gency calls. The Fed­er­al Coun­cil may, after weigh­ing-up the in­terests of pub­lic and the pro­viders and tak­ing ac­count of tech­nic­al de­vel­op­ments and in­ter­na­tion­al har­mon­isa­tion, spe­cify ex­cep­tions and per­mit the use of the po­s­i­tion­ing func­tions of ter­min­als even without the ex­press con­sent of the user.

3 The Fed­er­al Coun­cil may ex­tend the ob­lig­a­tion provide the emer­gency ser­vice to oth­er tele­com­mu­nic­a­tions ser­vices that are pub­licly ac­cess­ible and widely used.
