¹ The dir­ect­or of pro­ceed­ings may dis­pense with the re­quire­ments for a private claimant to at­tend at the claimant's re­quest if his or her pres­ence is not re­quired.

² A third party af­fected by an ap­plic­a­tion for for­feit­ure is not re­quired to ap­pear in per­son.

³ If a private claimant or a third party af­fected by an ap­plic­a­tion for for­feit­ure does not ap­pear in per­son, he or she may be rep­res­en­ted or sub­mit writ­ten ap­plic­a­tions.
