Art. 20 Subject of the investigation

1 The STSB shall in­vest­ig­ate the in­cid­ents that must be re­por­ted to the re­port­ing of­fice.

2 It in­vest­ig­ates in­cid­ents that oc­cur abroad only if:

a.
an in­vest­ig­a­tion re­lat­ing to an in­cid­ent in a for­eign state in­volving a Swiss air­craft or an air­craft man­u­fac­tured in Switzer­land is as­signed to the Swiss au­thor­it­ies;
b.
the in­cid­ent oc­curs out­side the sov­er­eign ter­rit­ory of any state; or
c.
no for­eign in­vest­ig­at­ing au­thor­ity is pre­pared to con­duct the in­vest­ig­a­tion.

3 It in­vest­ig­ates in­cid­ents in­volving air­craft used by the cus­toms or po­lice au­thor­it­ies only if it is ex­pec­ted that the in­vest­ig­a­tion may bring res­ults that will be im­port­ant in pre­vent­ing fur­ther in­cid­ents.

4 It may in­vest­ig­ate oth­er in­cid­ents if it is ex­pec­ted that the in­vest­ig­a­tion may bring res­ults that will be im­port­ant in pre­vent­ing fur­ther in­cid­ents.
